Set up a password manager

One app remembers all your passwords, behind a single password only you know.

First, which are you using?

  1. Pick your password manager

We suggest Bitwarden (free and excellent) or 1Password (paid, very polished). Either is a great choice — this guide earns nothing either way.

  2. Get it from the App Store

Open the App Store, tap Search, type the name, and tap Get. The official stores screen out bad apps — never install from a link in a text or email.

  3. Create your one master password

Make one strong password you'll remember — this is the only one you need to keep in your head. Write it down and store it somewhere safe at home.

  4. Let it save passwords as you sign in

From now on, when you log in to a website, the app offers to save it. Say yes. Next time, it fills it in for you.

  5. Add it to your computer too

Install the matching browser add-on on your computer too, so your passwords are in both places. The Computer steps cover how.

If your screen looks a little different, don't worry. Apps change their layout now and then. Look for the same words — the button you want almost always says the same thing.
